Mark Hill KC

Mark Hill KC is a practising barrister and Global Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame, London, where he teaches a course on international religious liberty. He is a specialist in FoRB and a member of the Council of Experts of IRFBA (the Article 18 Alliance). He regularly advises foreign governments and civil society agencies on compliance with international human rights norms. He has represented clients in the UK Supreme and the European Court of Human Rights as well as contributing to amicus briefs in the US Supreme Court and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. He is Vice-President of the International Consortium for Law and Religion Studies, and a board member of the African Consortium for Law and Religion Studies and the European Consortium for Church and State Research. His recent publications include Magna Carta, Religion and the Rule of Law (2015) Christianity and Criminal Law (2020), Routledge Handbook of Freedom of Religion or Belief (2021), Law and Religion in the United Kingdom (3rd ed. 2021) Islam, Religious Liberty and Constitutionalism in Europe (2024). He is currently engaged in ongoing projects in Nigeria and Nepal.
